October Half Term Guide - Family Events in Cheltenham

There’s so much to do in our little heart of the Cotswolds, that you really don’t even need to leave Cheltenham for some top notch activities this half term. We've rounded up some fun things to do this week below, and don't forget to check over on the Halloween activity guide for a list of lots of spooky events and activities throughout half term.

Mr Mulligan's Lost Wold Golf
After opening earlier this month in the Brewery Quarter, Mr Mulligan's Lost World Golf is in full swing. Choose between two 18 hole courses (or play both if you're feeling super-adventurous). Price for a family of 4 - £23. Book online to save money and secure your tee-off time. Find out more.

Autumn Wildlife Trail
Saturday 21st - Sunday 29th October
Crickley Hill invites you along for a special Autumn Wildlife Trail during half term. Pick up a trail in the Crickley Cafe and get climbing! This event is suitable for the whole family, with a £1 suggested donation charge. Find out more.

Cineworld Movies for Juniors
Monday 23rd - Thursday 26th October
It's a very special week at Cineworld this week as they raise money for Children in Need and there's a bonus 4 discounted films to choose from in the Movies for Juniors line up. Choose from Captain Underpants, Despicable Me 3, The Emoji Movie and The Nut Job 2. Find out more.

Individual events

Monday 23rd October

Bounce & Play @ All Saints
Inflatable Bounce and Play is back once again at All Saints Academy this October half term with all the kids’ favourite bouncy castles all in one place. These sessions are most suited to children aged 0-11 with parental supervision, and run morning and afternoon on the 23rd and 24th October. Entry costs £5 per child and £2 for babies and crawlers, with free parking on-site. Find out more.

Exploring the Solar System
Bishops Cleeve Library invites you along to this free event. Join local scientist Paul Treble to explore the Solar System for the afternoon (move over Brian Cox!). Suitable for ages 8 – 11 years with accompanying adults welcome. Find out more.

Nature Discovery
Little ones can head along to the Park Campus of the University of Gloucestershire to explore their beautiful tree-lined nature trail. There will be a number of activities to fill the morning, including creepy-crawly identification and nature-themed crafts! Entrance is by donation, however if you donate £2 per person you will receive free entry to the Science Centre valid for the rest of half term. This event is suited to ages 0-4. Find out more.

Tuesday 24th October

Cheltenham Science Centre - Cotswold Astronomical Society: Observing the Sun
During school holidays, Cheltenham's wonderful Science Centre is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am - 4pm and this week they have some special visitors joining them on selected days. On Tuesday the Cotswold Astronomical Society will be will be taking a closer look at the sun and looking for sun spots. Find out more about Cheltenham Science Centre

Wednesday 25th October

Story Time With Annie Stewart
Free indoor activities are always a welcome offer as a parent, especially when the event is hosted by local renowned author Annie Stewart! Annie will be reading stories featuring her loveable character Wilf, held at Cheltenham Children’s Library. Suitable for school aged children. Find out more.

Wednesday Crafty Fun
Fun craft-based activities in The Wilson’s dedicated learning space. Offering a variety of engaging and tactile craft processes or ‘makes’ for young ones to try at different skill-levels. Don’t be afraid to join in the fun - pop along and have a go! Best for 3-10 years and accompanying adults. No need to pre-book, morning and afternoon sessions available. Entry costs £2.20 per child for a 2 hour session. Find out more.

Meet the Author of The Wishing Fish Clock
Our famous ‘fish-bubble clock’ now has it’s very own book (you know, the one in the Regent Arcade with that sprays bubbles on the hour, every hour?)! This beautiful book has been penned by Cotswold author Miranda Walker, and now you’ve got the chance to meet her and listen to her read The Wishing Fish Clock! The morning session is being held at the School House Cafe and is suitable for ages 0-4. Find out more.

Jet Age Musuem
There's free entry for the whole family at the Jet Age Museum which opens on a Wednesday during school holidays. Explore the museum, get up close to some classic models and watch aircraft taking off and landing. Find out more

Thursday 26th October

Museum by Torchlight
Spend an evening exploring The Wilson Museum and experience as never seen before! With lights out and torch in-hand, search out lost ‘artifacts’ and clues in a special scavenger hunt for young detectives, Night in The Museum style! Spaces are limited, so booking ahead is advised. Suitable for ages 5-12 years, costing £3 per entry. Find out more.

Friday 27th October

Sport Science
This one’s for the whole family - Cheltenham Science Centre is holding a special one day session investigating what happens to our bodies when we do sport. You will be looking into how exercise affects your pulse and breathing, you can test your reaction time and even make a model of your lungs to take home with you! Sounds super scientific to us! Admission costs £2 per person (aged over 4), £7.50 for a family of up to 5 people in one party, or FREE with an annual family pass. Find out more.

Family Park Music
Miniature Music have planned a delightful morning of music in Pittville Park this half term. If it’s not raining, the plan is to meet by the band stand near the Pump Room. Suitable for ages 0-5, priced at £6 per family (with coffee and cake included too!). Find out more.

Friday 27th October - Saturday 28th October

Rock Up and Bounce
Rock up & Bounce is the exciting new inflatable experience aimed at older children (aged 5–13 years) and it’s pitching up at Pates Grammar School on the 27th and 28th October. There will be various inflatable entertainments including obstacle courses, a human demolition zone, a disco bouncy castle, a large inflatable slide, pillow wars and a surf simulator! Each 90 minute session costs £8 per child, with spaces limited. Find out more.

Friday 27th October - Sunday 29th October

Disney Fairytale Weekend
To round off half term, The Enchanted Tea Rooms are offering a weekend of exclusive Disney princess themed menus throughout their Disney fairytale inspired weekend. Drawing focus on well-loved classic Disney princess films including Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, the Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Breakfast Tea is £19.95pp and £9.95 for children, and Afternoon Tea is £22.95pp and £12.95 for children, suitable for the whole family but most appreciated by school-aged children. Find out more.
