Cheltenham Science Festival: What's On Around Town

Cheltenham Science Festival’s…around town programme will be taking over the streets and bars of Cheltenham (Thursday 7 - Sunday 10 June) bringing hands-on science fun to people of all ages. From stargazing to Bioblitzing and with plenty more on the Imperial Gardens Festival site, it adds up to over 80 free activities to get stuck into!

New this year is the #CheltSciFest Fringepromising laughs, shows, quizzes and geeky film nights in clubs and bars all over town – all for free.

Acts include top science show Agony Auncles of Science who won five star reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe, nerdy nonsense from Science Showoff cabaret and a late night Algorave in the Town Hall with a chance to have a go at generating some electronic music using algorithms.

Join in a 24-hour Bioblitz in Pittville Park run by students from the University of Gloucestershire and help document the variety of plants and animals around. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, on The Promenade, Regent Street and High Street, be amazed by street science buskers and climb aboard the Beemobile.

The…around town programme is supported by Cheltenham Business Improvement District (BID) to involve the town's businesses, shops, bars and hotels in the fun.

New this year in the Imperial Gardens Festival Village is the Cyber Zone where world-leading artificial intelligence company DeepMind will be sharing their latest research. Back by popular demand, the MakerShack is a hub of creativity and invention.

More free interactive zones include The Sphere with a health and lifestyle focus, the Discover Zone, the EDF Energy Zone, the GE Pavilion and Hartpury Science Hub. Also on site are a skydiving display by the RAF Falcons, the Woodland Trust Nature Detectives, a free Animal Superheroes Science Trail created for the Festival by BBC Focus Magazine and a cryptic Cyber Trail.

Cheltenham Science Festival runs from 5-10 June with over 200 events celebrating science and the arts, and exploring how our world is connected and divided – from personal relationships, health and language to the law, global politics and the universe.
