Get your pitch pipes at the ready, ‘tis the season to be singing, tra la la la laaa! We’ve all been there, vaguely mouthing the words to a carol we don’t know, standing next to someone who’s giving it their all; belting out the chorus with gusto - and it's that time of year again folks!

Here's a run down of some fantastic community carol concerts in Cheltenham to fully get you in the festive spirit.

Friday 14th December

Christmas On The Square offers a change from the norm on Coronation Square, where, from 4:30pm - 6pm, 14 market stalls belonging to local charities, organisations and businesses will all be selling christmas gifts and tasty festive food! Local choirs from Rowanfield School, Hesters Way Primary School and the Community Choir will be carolling throughout the evening, with the Mayor of Cheltenham on hand for the ceremonious light switch on of the 18ft Christmas tree in the centre of the square at 6pm. Christmas Carols in Montpellier Gardens returns for this annual winter warmer! Join your friends, family and neighbours at the bandstand in to celebrate Christmas, singing along to festive favorites with the Ukeholics Ukulele Band and Innsworth Military Wives Choir. Mulled wine and mince pies will be sale at the Gardens Cafe. From 5pm - 7pm, free to attend and sing out - although your best Alfie Boe impression sadly won’t be rewarded! Find out more.


Saturday 15th December

Come and join Melody's Gospel Choir for a fun, family friendly, festive sing-a-long at Holy Apostles Church from 4pm! Kids and toddlers even get their own instruments to join in the fun, and participation is encouraged! Donations on the door for the event, all money raised will go to the Charity Worcester Community Trust. Find out more.


Sunday 16th December

Minster Merriment is happening at St Matthew’s Church! Come and sing along with the Cheltenham community, enjoying hot drinks, roast chestnuts and children's craft activities! The town carol concert begins at 4pm at Cheltenham Minster and all are invited to attend! Find out more.


St Marks annual candlelit carol service is a lovely local event, with guests encouraged to get involved and follow the song sheet! Drinks and mince pies are served post-service at 7:30pm, although free donations are encouraged. Find out more.


Cambray Baptist Church (near John Lewis) is hosting Candles By Candlelight, come along from 6:30pm for what promises to be a lovely, atmospheric service with carols and candles, followed by mulled wine and mince pies! Find out more.


Monday 17th December

The Shurdington Community Carols is a service for everyone! Come along to enjoy the traditional carols and hear the Christmas story from 6pm. Refreshments afterwards and all are welcome! Hosted by Shurdington school, chapel and local churches. Find out more.


Tuesday 18th December

Superdry Christmas Carols is a carol concert with a difference, and definately for the hard-core carolers! Enjoy some last minute Christmas shopping at Superdry head office, which opens doors to the public for one night only. From 5:30pm, Christmas carols will be performed by the worship band of Trinity Church Cheltenham, with raffle prizes to be won, mince-pies and drinks throughout the evening. Entry is free, with a suggested donation of £5 per person, all profits from the event to go to the Prince's Trust. Find out more.


Miracle On 34th Street AND carols?! What a treat! Enjoy a special screening of the Christmas classic at the Bacon Theatre, with mince pies, mulled wine and enchanting carols performed by Gloucester and District Christian Choir. From 7.45pm with tickets at £9 per person. Find out more.


Friday 21st December

Hosted by The Oriel Singers, Carols By Candlelight at Holy Apostles Church provides the perfect opportunity to relax and listen to beautiful Christmas-inspired music, such as Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols (guest soloist Stephen Whitford), as well as the chance to join in with well known favourites! With mulled wine and mince pies at the end of the performance, we’ll see you at 6pm! Tickets are £12 for adults and free for under 18s. Find out more.


Saturday 22nd December

The Central Cross Cafe in Pittville Park brings all the fun and faux snow again this year, with a festive sing-a-long by candlelight, and of course mulled wine and mince pies. Now in its 8th year, Carols in the Park is raising money for Cheltenham Food Bank, and food donations are also welcome. The evening kicks off at 5pm, with carol singing from 6pm. Find out more.
